Our first year of operation is 2009-2010. Our year-end financial statements will be made available here for each year of operation.
Why we are not a registered charity:
We are a non-profit organization but not a registered charity at this time. A trend in world development is to support grass roots local efforts, by microlending and other means. There is a growing realization that this has the greatest effect, and honours the expertise and needs of local residents most.
Fundamental change and lasting development often starts with small, local scale organizations. Charities may be restricted for administrative reasons, economies of scale, and regulatory reasons from supporting such efforts.
From time to time we will support projects undertaken by other charities that are consistent with our goals. We will also explore charitable registration in future, but are currently in non-registered status. This requires your trust in what we do. It means donations will be non-tax deductible. Yet it gives us flexibility, keeps us nimble, and allows us to give our hand directly to those in action who are not supported by other charities. You are a true partner, and your contribution will have direct effect.
The world is now “glocal”. We have immediate knowledge, human connection and communication with almost anyone on the planet. In the same way that you might lend a hand to your neighbor next door, you can do the same for your neighbor in Congo.
